Is dubai shopping festival any better than shopping deals in ones country? Is it worth going?

Why should I go to dubai at the time of shopping festival.. can someone give me a critique?

Dubai created the shopping fest to help its own economy so people would put their saved money back into circulation , and the tourism factor came along with that. The DSF is mostly targeted at regional visitors & residents. During DSF there are educational, cultural, and entertainment activities and fairs, so it is not necessarily shopping , many people just go to have fun or take their kids to the fair (like Global Village) or to see a children play(theater) etc.

I was surprised myself looking at some of the ads , there are actually bargins believe it or not , unlike previous years (thanks to the credit crunch!), I'd never seen a name brand digital video camcorder go for 750 AED (let alone below 1K) until this year . But the prices of food items have gone up so its a mixed blessing I guess.

i used to live there and unless its changed there are not many real bargains add the cost of travel and accommodation in and its only worth going during this time if u were going for a holiday anyway. as the other person said a lot of cultural and fun events at this time and in addition to what they said it was done to brighten up a dull time of yr tourist wise
